Active Travel Group
A group of active and adventure travel companies
Mobeus originally invested £6.3m to back the secondary buyout of Ski Solutions, the London-based luxury winter sports travel experts in August 2017. Just 12 months later, in September 2018, Mobeus provided £3.1m to fund the management buyout of Wilderness Scotland, a tour operator based in Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, which offers a range of walking, cycling and kayaking tours in Scotland, the North of England and Ireland.
The enlarged group was renamed Active Travel Group and will comprise Wilderness Scotland and its sister brand Wilderness Ireland, alongside Ski Solutions and outbound cycle and walking operators BSpoke and Cycling for Softies.
THE ORIGINAL DEAL
Mobeus provided over £6m to take an undisclosed majority stake in Ski Solutions, as part of a secondary buyout from family office Stone Ventures.
Mobeus invested in Ski Solutions as a platform investment with the clear strategic objective of leveraging its strengths, scaling the business and creating a broader, more balanced (summer and winter) activities business. Following the original investment, the Mobeus Origination team conducted a thorough acquisition search which identified Wilderness Scotland as the most attractive investment opportunity.
Ashley Broomberg led the deal and the follow-on for Mobeus, supported by Danielle Garland. John Wimbleton, a travel executive with more than 35 years' experience on the Group Management Board at TUI Travel plc, and more recently at Scott Dunn, joins as Chairman. Justin Maltz sits on the Board to represent Mobeus.
